Paralympian, Hannah Stodel, Trains to be the First Disabled Woman to Sail Solo Around the World

Hannah Stodel - Paralympian

If you haven’t heard of Hannah Stodel, look her up!

Born missing her lower right arm, Hannah went on to become a 3 x world champion and 4 x GB Paralympian.

And apparently, that’s not enough as Hannah now plans to become the first disabled woman to complete the Everest of sailing by entering the gruelling Vendée Globe race.

A race that will see Hannah competitively sailing solo and unassisted around the globe. A challenge that to date has never been attempted by a disabled female sailor.

Gipsy Moth to be Restored by New Owner

Restoration work has begun on Sir Francis Chichester’s classic ketch, Gipsy Moth IV after it was purchased by new owner, Simon Oberholzer.

Simon commented, “It was a great opportunity to own a piece of history, and we want to bring her back to how she was in 1967. I look at her very much like a vintage car; you need to bring her back to her original condition to understand her and Chichester’s achievements.”

Gipsy Moth IV is a 53 ft. ketch that Sir Francis Chichester commissioned specifically to sail single-handed around the globe, racing against the times set by the clipper ships of the 19th century.
